What is to be gained from them?
«A student, struggling with the abstract
concepts of Platonic mathematics, asked Plato, “What practical end do these
theorems serve? What is to be gained from them?” At the student concerns Plato turned to his attendant
and said, “Give this young man an obol that he may feel that he has gained
something from my teachings, and then expel him”».
